Lamayuru Monastery

Today we did a quick fly-by the city of Leh on our way to the Lamayuru Monastery for the night.  Leh is a big city.  Lots of military around … buildings, vehicles, soldiers, bases, barbed wire fences, checkpoints.

The traffic was as chaotic as ever … happy to be on a motorcycle to get through the mess.  We stopped at a pizza restaurant (yes, pizza!) that had a very spotty wifi connection to do a quick check on emails from the last 5 days.

The Lamayuru monastery is about 120 km from Let and it is a 1000 year old monastery perched on top of a rock.  I had the chance to meditate with 15+ monks as they went through their prayers in the main chamber … a very unique experience.

I wonder what secrets, truths, wisdoms have been passed on from generation to generation for so many years.  What is in those scrolls that they repeat over and over?  Is the meaning of life codified in there somewhere?  If so, why aren't they telling us all?

Tomorrow we head to Leh for the end of the motorcycle adventure and a couple of days of recovery and rest.
