Ride a River?

We got up early to ride up to Chandatral Lake before breakfast.  The lake, allegedly, was just up and over the hill from the valley where we were.  However, a few kilometers up the hill, we had to abandon our bikes and walk the rest of the way … at 4400m with full on motorcycle gear and boots … not an easy thing to do … now I know what Everest climbers feel like … one step at a time … then breath a lot … then another one.

We finally made.  The deep blue lake felt like it was at the top of the world.  The view all around made the climb worth it.

After breakfast, we headed to Grampoo on 50km of the worst roads of the trip … bone rattling … river crossings …swithcbacks … again, in stunning surroundings.  Glaciers way high that turned into waterfalls that joined the river below.

Some of this waterfalls ended up landing on the road and following it so we literally had to ride rivers, downhill, with rapids that obscured the boulders underneath … and a 1000ft drop on one side!

Just a great ride … hard, exciting, beautiful … lots of mechanical failures … brakes, gear boxes, tires, loose handlebars … lost my muffler again as I was climbing a river uphill.

It is interesting to see how we are taking fewer pictures … we are now immersed in these amazing surroundings and somehow they seem normal.  Hopefully these views and feelings of awe and peace get permanently etched in my mind.

We arrived at our camp for the night – third day without internet, cell phones … and life goes on.

I wonder if Trump is still the President : )
