Living Leh

Today was a day of recovery … haircuts (which come with a violent head massage), shopping (pashminas, prints, old Buddhist stuff), cappuccinos, and talking to people.

We also had our last dinner with the group … speeches, hugs.  The discussion of each persons’ close calls on the road over the last few days was interesting … lots of reminiscing … and “nervous” laughter : )

Met a 20-year old woman that was doing henna tattoos with her little baby and little brother … memories of holding my own babies came back when held her 2 month old.

Interesting how life becomes very simple and focused when you have to solve things like feeding your family every day.  However, it is humbling to see how she had not forgotten to enjoy life, what little she had, the joy of meeting people from all over the world, sharing her humanity and hoping to bring joy to others through her work.

We also went to visit the Stok monastery on the outskirts of Leh ... interesting how these building are always in some sort of outcrop with amazing views of the valleys bellow.  Very conducive to thinking and contemplation.

Here are some pictures from around town.
